The Chandelier Falls: Emma’s Revenge (Part 2)
The Smile
Emma didn’t cry. She didn’t scream. She didn’t collapse. Instead, a slow, terrifyingly calm smile spread across her face. It wasn’t a fragile, heartbroken smile. It was a smile that made the investment board members in the room suddenly stand up straighter.
“Patience isn’t fear, Daniel,” Emma said, her voice echoing perfectly in the dead-quiet room. “Patience is a strategy.”
Daniel frowned. His arrogant smirk faltered for just a fraction of a second. Victoria stiffened, her eyes narrowing as she stepped in front of her son. “Stop making a scene and leave, Emma,” Victoria snapped. “You’ve embarrassed yourself enough.”
The Reversal
“I’m not leaving,” Emma replied, dropping her hand from her belly and reaching into her small evening clutch. “Because this isn’t your house anymore, Victoria.”
The string quartet players actually lowered their bows. The mistress pulled her hand away from Daniel’s arm, suddenly looking very unsure of her red dress.
Emma pulled out a sleek, black USB drive and held it up to the light of the chandelier. “You thought I was sitting at home, planning a nursery,” Emma said, looking directly at the man from Daniel’s investment board. “But I was sitting at home auditing the Carter firm’s offshore accounts.”
Daniel’s face went completely, ghostly pale. “What did you do?” he breathed.
The Checkmate
“I sent everything to the SEC three hours ago,” Emma said, her voice dropping into a razor-sharp whisper. “The embezzlement. The fake shell companies. The funds you drained from your own investors to buy her—” she gestured to the mistress, “—that penthouse in Dubai.”
The room erupted in panicked whispers. The board member who had been watching the door suddenly pulled out his phone and stormed out of the room, dialing frantically. His wife followed right behind him.
Daniel lunged forward, but two of his own security guards instinctively stepped in his way, recognizing that the power in the room had just violently shifted.
“You signed an ironclad prenup!” Victoria shrieked, her perfect composure shattering into a million pieces. “You get nothing!”
The Exit
“I don’t need your money,” Emma said, turning her back on them. She stopped at the grand oak doors and looked over her shoulder one last time.
“I bought the debt on this estate yesterday through a proxy firm,” Emma said smoothly. “The bank is foreclosing tomorrow morning. You have until 8:00 AM to pack your bags.”
She opened the doors, stepping out into the cool Beverly Hills night. Behind her, the Carter empire was burning to the ground. And for the first time in months, Emma took a deep breath, perfectly content with the silence.
